Problem with laptop overheating

When I first got my beloved machine, it was so quite. I could do the compilation almost without noticing that the machine was in the room, using 100% CPU during the whole compilation.

Recently the fan noise has been so loud at almost 0% CPU usage which lead me to suspect that dust had collected somewhere in the cooling system. So I started dissecting my machine.

Removing the heat sink, I found a thick layer of dust on the side closest to the fan. See picture below

After removing the dust, the fan is as quite now as it was when I first got my beloved computer.

Re: Problem with laptop overheating

I have this problem with all my desktops. Periodically I have to remove the cover and vacuum everything out. And this is just house dust. I can only imagine what it must be like in a house with smokers and/or pets.

Re: Problem with laptop overheating

Never had it happen to my desktops before. Good to consider if it would. Thanks!

Re: Problem with laptop overheating

Just to reiterate...it is safe to vacuum the laptop's fan???
